Young Film Programmers 2023

Meet our emerging curators

Published: 01 Aug 2023

Introducing our 2023 Young Film Programmers.

We’re excited to announce our Young Film Programmers cohort for 2023 - you can find out more about them below. We’ll be working with the group throughout the year to provide them with an essential introduction to all aspects of hosting a film screening, before handing over the reins to our very own Northern Exposure short film night.
Our Young Programmers are currently working towards their first Northern Exposure screening series in October 2023. For these events, they want to hear from local storytellers whose voices often go unheard in mainstream cinema. Submissions close on Monday 14 August - find out more.

Jasmine Broome

Jazz recently graduated from The University of Essex with a degree in Drama. Hailing from Greater Manchester, Jazz has always had a passion for all things film and cinema - especially anything by Martin McDonagh. In her spare time, you'll catch Jazz making her way through a new fiction read every few weeks.

Lily Corke Butters

Lily is a recent graduate of the Northern Film School, with a BA Hons in Filmmaking. Her goal is to become an independent writer-director, but she is keen to learn more about the world of screenings and distribution. She is one of the founding members of Oxygen Films - an independent, LGBTQ+ film production company in Leeds - and she works closely with Northern Fortress Films, a Bradford-based, independent production company. She values the representation of marginalised voices and creative portrayals of important issues on screen.

Cian Lee

Cian is a graduate with a BA Hons in Film & Television Studies. He has an interest in filmmaking and what goes into the production process behind the scenes. In his spare time, Cian enjoys writing screenplays and short stories of different genres.

Finch Murphy

Finch Murphy is a writer, drag artist, neuroqueer activist and film enthusiast from Manchester.

Adam Widdowson

Adam has a passion for film, photography, writing and generally anything creative. He graduated with a first class degree in Media, Moving Image and Photography in 2022 and went on to set up as a creative freelancer under the name Lost Souls Studios, as well as continuing his work as a volunteer at Wentworth Woodhouse as part of their digital team. His main goal in life is to make films and be creative, live by the coast in a VW campervan and own a replica Kermit The Frog puppet.

Northern Exposure Young Film Programmers is part of our BFI Film Academy programme for young film fans. BFI Film Academy offers opportunities for ambitious 16-25 year olds, anywhere in the UK, to get to know more about film and how to forge a career in the screen industries.
