In Camera, Naqqash Khalid’s highly anticipated feature debut, we're hosting a
Filmmaker Roundtable with the writer/director and
Yorkshire Indian Film Festival at Pictureville Bar, Bradford on Tuesday 17 September. Following the roundtable, YIFF are presenting a free
preview screening of the film and Q&A session at The Light Cinema. Further details and tickets below.
Naqqash Khalid is a writer/director from Manchester. His debut feature film In Camera was backed by BBC Film, the BFI, and Uncommon Studios; his short film Stock was commissioned for television and premiered as part of Sky’s Post-Brexit series ‘Art 50’. Naqqash was selected as one of Screen International’s Stars of Tomorrow 2020 and is adapting Boris Vian’s The Empire Builders as a four-part limited series.
In Camera follows Aden (played by Nabhaan Rizwan), a young actor in a cycle of nightmarish auditions. After he receives multiple rejections, Aden takes it upon himself to find a new part to play. Full of pointed observations about an industry rife with prejudice and hypocrisy, In Camera deploys elements of surrealism and fantasy to trace how its young British-Asian protagonist’s sense of self is affected by the tokenism of a world he hopes to conquer.
