Our BFI NETWORK Talent Executive Jen Bradfield joins the How it works: Short Film Funding panel at Manchester Animation Festival to discuss the delicate art of funding short films and how to get your film ideas financed. Learn how to navigate the financial landscape, pitch to the right people, and make the most of your budget while maintaining creative control. Gain insights from real-world success stories and take away practical advice to help bring your animated project to life!

Meet the panel:

  • Jen Bradfield is a BFI Talent Development Executive. She selects, develops and executive produces projects for the BFI NETWORK Short Film Fund and Early Development Feature Fund.

  • Tom Brown is a British artist and filmmaker, primarily known for his short films Christopher at Sea (2022), Cousin John - The Arrival (2020), teeth (2015), and t.o.m. (2007) which have collectively won over 50 awards at festivals around the world including Sundance, SXSW, Outfest, Annecy, and BIFA nominated. Brown spent 12 years in New York working at Psyop in animation and film, before returning to the UK to take up residence in the Peak District. Now working at his boutique production company Temple Carrington & Brown, producing films and creating commercial content. 

  • Helen Brunsdon has worked extensively across the animation industry as a consultant, producer and executive working with some of the most creative names in animation including Aardman, Arthurcox, Brothers McLeod, CBBC, Creative Skillset and Disney. Whilst at Aardman, Helen played an important part in developing new projects for broadcast, and headed up the short film content, executive producing the BAFTA and multi award winning The Pearce Sisters. In addition to her production work, Helen also works as animation advisor, programmer, events producer and jury member.
