We're excited to be (virtually) heading to another edition of Bolton Film Festival, taking place entirely online from 16-24 October. Now in its 4th year and newly announced as a BAFTA B list qualifying event, Bolton Film Festival is one of the UK's most exciting platforms for emerging filmmakers.
In amongst its packed line-up of UK and international shorts and industry events, you'll find plenty of offerings from our BFI NETWORK team and the Northern filmmakers we're proud to support. Read on for our completely biased picks from this year's programme.
Animation 1
BFI NETWORK-funded animation Bernard features in the festival'sopening shorts programme. Paul Flannery's ode to his Uncle Bernard is a characterful tribute to a true eccentric and the streets and scenes of Manchester's Northern Quarter.
This selection of films made up North boasts a double header of work from BFI NETWORK-funded filmmakers. Tessa Hoffe's Majority screens following a berth at BFI London Film Festival, while Kate Graham's Scrum makes its UK premiere.
DCSS, an absurdist comedy developed through our Microshorts partnership with Tees Valley Screen, makes an appearance in this shorts programme. Class and bureaucracy are the primary targets in a bite-sized takedown of British social mores.

An Everyday Act screens in the festival's final day. Fresh from a spot at BFI London Film Festival, Gavin Scott Whitfield's BFI NETWORK-funded drama tells the story of a catastrophic coming-of-age moment for 12-year-old Eric.
