Film Exhibition Fund Round-Up

Our Film Exhibition Fund awards more than £70,000 to Northern film exhibitors

Published: 10 Dec 2024

Film Hub North has closed its Film Exhibition Fund for the 2024/2025 financial year, after awarding more than £70,000 of National Lottery funding to local film organisations.

12 film exhibitors have received support to grow audiences for cultural film across the North of England.

Supported venues and festivals included Mint Chinese Film Festival in Keswick, Women X Film Festival in Darlington, DayDream Cinema in Newcastle - a new organisation that supports neurodivergent and disabled people to enjoy films in their communities and cinema venues - and Yorkshire and North East Film Archives’ tour of new archive short film In the Veins, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1984 Miner’s Strike.

From film festivals to community centres, village halls to libraries and museums, thanks to support from the Film Hub North's Film Exhibition Fund the Yorkshire and North East Film Archive’s In the Veins production has been touring the North of England. Empowering and impactful, the screen heritage has resonated with young and old, but don’t take our word for it, this is what one Women X Film Festival audience member said: “It was history come to life”. - Yorkshire and North East Film Archive

With the support of Film Hub North we have been able to not only expand the reach of our film exhibition at Women X Fest this year to more audiences across the North, but also elevate the quality and immersive nature of the films we have screened. Supporting us to work harder on our audience development to showcase an impressive range of films we are proud of along with serving our audiences with stories they want to see that they would otherwise not have access to. From inviting fascinating conversations on the miners strike following our Archival screening of In The Veins, to the lit up faces of children watching Tabby McTat at our family screenings, Film Hub North have been pivotal in our success and audience experience. - Women X

We’ll be covering more stories from organisations we’ve supported in the new year. Our Film Exhibition Fund will reopen early next year for activities taking place April 2025 to March 2026.

In the meantime, our Pitch Pot Fund is still open if you’re looking for quick-fire micro-grants for one-off events and short screening programmes. And you can book a spot on our next exhibitor drop-in session to talk to our team about funding opportunities here.
