Northern Exposure: Short Film Script Lab

Take part in our script development programme

Published: 16 Aug 2018

We're looking for new and emerging writers based in the North of England to take part in a peer-to-peer script development programme.

Taking place throughout September and October 2018, the Northern Exposure: Short Film Script Lab will see writers work collaboratively and creatively in small groups as they take their ideas from short form treatments to step outlines and, finally, completed drafts. Regular development sessions will be held in Sheffield and Newcastle, facilitated by BFI NETWORK Talent Executives Alice Ramsey and Jess Loveland. Our Talent Executives will be on-hand to guide and supervise the development of the projects during and outside of the sessions, as well as offering broader professional development advice.
Before the end of the programme, selected work from the lab will be performed in front of a live audience of industry figures and members of the public at a rehearsed reading at Off the Shelf literary festival in Sheffield.

Who can apply

Participation in the Northern Exposure: Short Film Script Lab is free and open to writers working in any creative discipline with an idea for a short film under 15 minutes in length.
The lab is an opportunity to fast-track a project and meet with other writers in a creative and supportive environment. Participants must be able to commit to attending four practical group sessions between September and October and completing assigned writing work in-between lab meetings.

Read the programme guidelines.

The deadline for applications is 12:00 on Wednesday, 5 September.
Completed applications should be submitted to: bfinetwork@filmhubnorth.org.uk.
