Northern VoicesOur North at Storyhouse

The Young Programmers Team at Storyhouse have responded to the inaugural Our North core programme and, inspired by the theme of "Northern voices", have curated a line-up of films that presents the North from their own perspective.
Their choices reflect the enduring appeal of the North's musical sub-cultures for local young people - Ian Curtis biopic, Control and scene history, Northern Soul both feature - and showcase a spectrum of coming-of-age stories, from the cautionary to the cathartic. Our North's 2018 focus on Northern writers is neatly expressed in a screening of Educating Rita, the story of a young working class woman from Liverpool who heads to university to study literature, which will be accompanied by a discussion with emerging writers Danielle Jawando, James Rice and Ian Walker.
