in cinemas across in the North

Submit your work to Northern Exposure - our short film night showcasing local filmmaking talent.

Since 2018, we’ve showcased the most exciting filmmaking talent from the North of England at venues and festivals across the region. Curated by a group of young, emerging film curators, our last screening series toured to Leeds' INDIs Film Festival/Carriageworks, Manchester International Film Festival, Showroom Cinema in Sheffield, Storyhouse in Chester, and Sunderland Shorts Film Festival.

Filmmakers based in the North of England can submit their shorts for consideration now.
Selected filmmakers will have their work showcased at venues across the region, and will be invited to take part in post-screening Q&As where possible.

Films can take any form, genre or narrative approach. There’s only a few practical rules to be aware of - these can all be found on our FilmFreeway page, which is linked below.

Submissions for this round of screenings close on Thursday 19 June 2025.
