Submissions reopen for Northern Exposure - our short film night showcasing local filmmaking talent.

Northern Exposure is going back on the road, bringing the best of the region’s short films to venues across the North throughout February and March 2024.

Our early-2024 season takes place at: HOME, Manchester, as part of BFI Future Film Festival (15 Feb); Storyhouse, Chester (21 Feb); Forum Cinema, Hexham (2 Mar); and Leigh Film Factory (7 Mar).

Filmmakers based in the North of England can submit their shorts for consideration now. Selected filmmakers will have their work showcased at each venue, and will be invited to take part in post-screening Q&As where possible.

For the upcoming screening series, our Young Programmers are particularly interested in stories of transformation, rebirth and crossing borders. If you’ve got a short exploring themes of metamorphosis, awakening or the “other,” we want to see it.

Films can take any form, genre or narrative approach. There’s only a few practical rules to be aware of - these can all be found on our FilmFreeway page, which is linked below.

Submissions for this round of screenings close on Friday 19 January.
