New Black Voices is a showcase of the ones to watch in Black British film right now. We're excited to present this screening at Showroom Cinema in partnership with the venue and filmmaker Abena Taylor-Smith on Saturday, 2 November.

Ahead of the screening, we'll also be hosting a roundtable discussion with Cornelius Walker from the short documentary Black Sheep, an Oscar-nominated adaptation of Walker’s experiences as a child. Local creatives are invited to join us to discuss Cornelius' work, his approach to building a lasting career in film and how he came to collaborate with The Guardian on his life-changing project.

Places at the Filmmaker Roundtable are free and available to creatives working in the North of England.

To book your spot, email our BFI NETWORK team with your name, role and why you’d like to attend using the subject line "Black Sheep" by 5:00pm Wednesday 30 October.

About Cornelius Walker

Walker teamed up with The Guardian Documentary Fund for the documentary short Black Sheep, a deeply personal story exploring his own experiences with racism as a young man. Black Sheep won the award for Best Documentary Short at Sheffield Doc/Fest before going on to be nominated for an Oscar. Since then, Walker has been busy building a career as a director at Young Once Creative Forever, where he has directed both short films and commercial work for clients such as Google and Red Bull.
