Join us for a filmmaker roundtable with Extra Geography director Molly Manners and writer Miriam Battye, ahead of a special Q&A screening at HOME. Open to writers, directors and producers from across the North, this roundtable is a unique opportunity to gain valuable industry insights and hear first-hand from BFI-funded filmmakers.
Molly Manners is a BAFTA-winning director. Her feature film debut, Extra Geography (Film4/BFI/Screen Yorkshire), had a sold-out world premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition. Molly is also known for her work on the hit Netflix series One Day, for which she received two BAFTA nominations, including Best Director and won the RTS Best Director award. Before this, she directed the critically acclaimed 2nd Series of comedy drama In My Skin (BBC3/Hulu) for which she won a BAFTA for Best Drama Series, two BAFTA Cymru awards for Best Director and Best Drama, and an RTS award for Best Drama.
Miriam Battye is a writer from Manchester. She was the first writer in residence at Sister Pictures. Her plays are published by Faber and she is the recipient of the 2020 Harold Pinter Commission.
Extra Geography synopsis: Flic and Minna are best friends and high achievers at a girls’ boarding school, fiercely focused on their futures and making it into the best possible university. But their friendship and universe are challenged when they decide to become more "worldly" and embark on their big summer project: to fall in love with the next person they see, who just happens to be their geography teacher, Miss Delavigne. Extra romantic, extra messy, extra funny, Extra Geography is a story of growing pains and an intimate, authentic snapshot of the challenges and joys of teenage girlhood.
