We're looking for a group of actors to be part of our director training programme crew

Film Hub North are looking for a group of actors to be part of a director training programme in March 2025.


Film Generator is Film Hub North’s training programme for writers and directors with North East Screen. We’ve been working with writers to develop 4 short film scripts that could be shot in 1 day, in maximum 2 locations with maximum 3 actors. 4 emerging Directors will shoot these scripts and are looking for actors to play the roles. 

Shoot Information


Location: Sheffield City Centre 
Dates: Tuesday 25 - Friday 28 March. Films will be shot back to back, dates noted for each film
Fee: £105 per day (approx 9 hours at minimum wage)

We’d also ask all actors for 2 hours prior to production for an online read through of the script and an initial discussion with the director about performance. We can pay £30 for this so a total of £135.

Dead Weight (comedy)
Shooting Tuesday 25 March
A comedy caper about two friends faced with the task of disposing of their friend’s lifeless body after an all-night study session goes wrong. It quickly becomes clear that anxious academic Omar and fearless slacker Hasan aren’t cut out for crime!
Roles
Omar: South Asian male, age 20-30, preferably with Yorkshire accent
Hasan: South Asian male age 20-30, preferably with Yorkshire accent


The Audition or Pinkface (experimental drama)
Shooting Wednesday 26 March
Justin, a gay man, recites lines for a casting agent but is perturbed when he’s asked to be more flamboyant - he knows what they want but can’t do it. In the green room Justin discovers that the other actor up for the role is Stephen, a straight man. Justin spies on Stephen’s performance to see him giving a performance pulling from queer stereotypes. Justin barges into the audition to confront Stephen, the casting director and the industry at large.

Justin: male, age 20-35, must be played by an LGBTQ+ actor
Stephen: male, age 20-35


Why Are You Like This? (comedy)
Shooting Thursday 27 March
At a speed dating night Carl meets girl after girl and blows it every time. Confident Jimmy at the next table leans over and offers some advice. Initially the advice seems sound but quickly Jimmy’s comments become strangely focused on Carl’s race. Is it naivety or malice? Either way Carl does whatever he can to extricate himself from the conversation. 
Roles
Carl: black male, age 25-40
Jimmy: white male, age 25-40


Birder (psychological thriller)
Shooting Friday 28 March
Carrie, a disenfranchised birdwatcher, heads into the woods to find solitude from society. But Carrie and her beloved birds are disturbed first by irritating Todd and then by self-absorbed Portia. Will she go to extreme lengths to preserve her tranquility?
Roles
Carrie: mixed race female, age 20-35
Portia: white female, age 20-35
Todd: black male, age 30-40
