Bolton Film Festival is back, taking place in-person from 29 September - 3 October, and online from 6 - 17 October.
Our team is back too! We’re excited to be heading to the North West’s thriving festival of emerging and established filmmaking talent, and to see so many of the filmmakers we support featured in the line-up.
In amongst this year’s official selection, you’ll find a handful of shorts from our latest slate, and we’re hosting our very own showcase as part of the festival’s industry programme as well. If you’re wondering where to find us and our funded shorts during this year's festival, read on for our programme highlights.
Made Up North
Two selections from our slate feature in the festival’s first celebration of Northern filmmaking in all its diversity. Cuties and Salt Water Town are a suitably odd couple - one a hand-drawn chronicle of all human history, the other a gritty slice of social realism!
A new festival supported by our audience development team, Manchester Indian Film Festival collaborate here with their Bolton neighbours on an eclectic selection of shorts showcasing the best UK Asian film makers on the circuit.
Another double-header from our slate in the Made Up North programme, and once again a wildly different pairing. Inertia offers up some unexpected sci-fi in Saddleworth, while The Tide takes us into the heart of Scarborough’s struggling fishing community.
Join our team as we preview some of the most exciting work we've funded recently, followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers involved. Shaun Harrison, our BFI NETWORK Events and Outreach Officer, will be in attendance to chat to filmmakers about the support we can provide.
Expiation, another entry from our slate, makes its world premiere in the UK Shorts 4 programme. A Muslim family in Bradford grapple with faith, salvation, intolerance and hypocrisy in Oz Arshad’s playfully provocative short.
