We're excited to launch the Women's Histories Film Menu, your latest opportunity to get involved in the Film Audience Network's nationwide season of screen heritage events, running from January to May 2019. Curated in response to the theme of Women's Histories, the Film Menu emphasises the contributions female filmmakers have made to British cinema and, in particular, draws attention to films that have been underseen, forgotten or misunderstood.
The selected titles span several decades and are diverse in genre, tone and aesthetic - they range from early fifties light comedies to nineties breakout arthouse hits and long dormant cult sci-fis. Available to book as one-off celebrations of great individual filmmakers or programmed together to form a diverse season exploring the theme of Women's Histories from a number of angles, the Film Menu selections represent an opportunity to reassert female filmmakers into the received narrative of British cinema history. The films available to book are:
  • The Happy Family (Dir. Muriel Box | 1952)
  • Together (Dir. Lorenza Mazzetti | 1956)
  • Orlando (Dir. Sally Potter | 1992)
  • Welcome II the Terrordome (Dir. Ngozi Onwurah | 1995)
  • Morvern Callar (Dir. Lynne Ramsay | 2002)
