Tyneside Cinema are celebrating all things North East as part of Our North 2018. Their extensive programme, The Cinematic North East, is an exercise in mapping the cinematic geography of the region - it presents a series of classics set in the North East and strongly defined by their local identity, as well as a number of films who have used the area's landscapes to create other worlds, both magical and historical.
Selections from the Our North core programme include a duo of Jim Allen scripted productions: the epic Days of Hope, which will see director Ken Loach in attendance for a Q&A session, and a rare outing for United Kingdom, Roland Joffé's scorching takedown of austerity politics as experienced by a working class Gateshead community. Other events in the season include a homecoming for Michael Caine's gangster classic, Get Carter, which screens alongside a micro-budget redux version from irreverent remake artist Richard DeDomenici.
