We're pleased to introduce Film Hub North's latest Propeller Awards recipients: The Venus Collective.
With support from Film Hub North, this Liverpool-based group are taking over the screening room at Metal for their Screen Queens programme - a series of immersive events that celebrates and champions female directors. The season will see The Venus Collective transform Metal's space into an early noughties bedroom - think Groovy Chick, beaded curtains, bean bags and Dream Phones - inviting audiences in a space of collective sanctuary where they can consider the films shown and the discussions they prompt.
Their first event is The Virgin Suicides - Sofia Coppola's drama of teenage travails within the domestic space - on 28 September. The screening will be introduced by Dr Sian Lincoln (Liverpool John Moores University) who will discuss her work on 'bedroom culture;' exploring the role and significance of the bedroom as a key space through which teenage lives and identities play out.
