Join us for a member session exploring children and family offer for cinema audiences.
Empowering children and young people to develop their own relationship with film and the cinema is instrumental to ensure the relevance and sustainability of our venues. But nurturing the next generation of movie-goers can be challenging, with obstacles such as cost of living, limited selection of titles, and streaming services competing for parents and carers’ attention and time.
For this session, we will joined by FAN Young Audiences Champion Kirsten Geekie. Kirsten will talk us through effective and accessible ways to enhance screenings for children, how to best programme for different age groups, and how to engage with parents/carers to build a loyal and frequent audience.
Kirsten Geekie supports and champions the development of young audiences across the Film Audience Network by providing advice and consultancy to members. She is an experienced family, schools and young audience programmer who has curated and delivered film programmes, festivals and workshops in cinemas and schools across the UK on behalf of the BFI and Into Film. She was the lead writer for the Cinema Book for Children (Dorling Kindersley, 2014), and has a background in festival and cinema management having worked for EIFF, London Film Festival, Sheffield Doc Fest, LSFF, East End and DocHouse.
Live Closed Captions will be available through Zoom.
If you have any access needs in order to attend the session, please get in touch at info@filmhubnorth.org.uk.
We recommend you check out the
Young Audience Information Pack ahead of the session. This pack aims to provide a basic overview of who young audiences are and how to approach programming for them by signposting to organisations that run successful young audience film programmes and activity.
You can also consult the
Family and Children Film List, a non-exhaustive list of titles appropriate for family and children audiences, including age recommendations, certifications and distributor information.
