Developing Horror with Prano Bailey-Bond & Oliver Kassman

Anna Bogutskaya chats fearsome filmmaking with top genre talent

Starts at 16 Jun 2020 16:00

Location Online

Throughout June, Film Hub North is excited to present Genre in Focus: Horror - a series of online events for filmmakers looking at the moving image's power to scare, unsettle and disturb. We're setting the scene with Developing Horror - a discussion between Oliver Kassman, producer of festival hit and much-hyped UK horror Saint Maud, and writer-director and Screen International Star of Tomorrow Prano Bailey-Bond.
Join us from 4pm on Tuesday, 16 June for a discussion hosted by Anna Bogutskaya, freelance film programmer and co-founder of feminist horror collective The Final Girls. We'll hear Oliver and Prano chat about their work, the horror films that scare them and how filmmakers in the UK might develop their own voice within the genre. And our guests will answer questions from the room - you can submit yours in advance or ask it during the session.

Prano Bailey-Bond

Prano Bailey-Bond is a writer-director who grew up on a diet of Twin Peaks in the depths of a strange Welsh community. She was named a Screen International Star of Tomorrow in 2018 and is currently in post-production on her debut feature film Censor, backed by Film4, the BFI and Ffilm Cymru Wales. Prano’s strong body of shorts and music videos invoke imaginative worlds, fusing a dark vocabulary with eerie allure. Her short film Nasty screened at over 100 festivals after premiering at BFI London Film Festival. She is represented as a writer-director by Casarotto and is an alumna of BFI Network @LFF and the Berlin Talent Campus.

Oliver Kassman

Escape Plan is a genre focussed production company, founded by producer Oliver Kassman. The company’s first film was Rose Glass’s debut Saint Maud, starring Morfydd Clark and Jennifer Ehle. Funded by Film4 and the BFI, it premiered at TIFF 2019 to rave reviews and sold worldwide to A24, Studio Canal, Diaphana and Sony. Previously, Oliver was Head of Production and Development for eminent producer Michael Kuhn’s Qwerty Films. There he scouted and developed many of the company’s projects, including Stephen Frears’ Florence Foster Jenkins, starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant, on which he worked as Associate Producer.
