FACT take film to new corners of Liverpool

Published: 12 Aug 2021

FACT launch a new roaming cinema, bringing independent film to extraordinary places across Liverpool.

FACT, Liverpool’s centre for art, technology and digital culture, reopened its doors to cinema audiences back in May 2021. Now that they're fully back into the swing of things at 88 Wood Street, the team are taking the FACT cultural programme beyond the centre's four walls and on tour throughout Liverpool.
Cinema in the City is a new cinematic experience that brings the best in new, independent film to extraordinary and unexpected places across Liverpool. For its first edition, FACT’s roaming cinema sets up camp on the rooftop of the city’s historic Cotton Exchange building, providing audiences with the ideal vantage point to appreciate a line-up of acclaimed films and Liverpool’s inherently cinematic architecture.
Cinema in the City runs from 13 – 22 August at the Cotton Exchange, and is supported by National Lottery funding through Film Hub North’s Film Exhibition Fund.
Taking place across two weekends this summer, Cinema in the City presents a programme of exciting new releases and recent independent features audiences may have missed first time round.
The opening weekend line-up features Bloody Nose, Empty Pocks – a tricksy documentary about the last night of a Las Vegas dive bar; Francis Lee’s powerful period romance, Ammonite; and Apples, an absurd tragicomedy about a man suffering from amnesia and the latest entry into Greek cinema’s oddball canon.
On the second weekend, audiences can catch The Killing of Two Lovers, Robert Machoian’s fascinating portrait of a marriage in freefall; Rare Beasts, Billie Piper’s raucous directorial debut; and Stray, a remarkable documentary exploring life on the margins through the eyes of three dogs on the streets of Istanbul.
Screening alongside the main features is a selection of new short films from local filmmakers. And street food from the city’s much-loved independent vendors completes the Cinema in the City experience.
