Film Hub Midlands are supporting the exhibition of ‘Broader Screen’ content through a collection of the latest guidance, insights, toolkits, materials, and key contacts for FAN members.
Broader Screen content is the full breadth of visual, screen-based storytelling outside of film and television. This includes videogames, social media, XR—extended reality, including virtual reality and augmented reality experiences—and other interactive media.
As FAN Champions for Broader Screen, Film Hub Midlands are building up and sharing their knowledge of this rapidly changing area. Their online resource includes:
- An introduction to Broader Screen Content
- A collection of terms and descriptions explaining ways that audiences can experience Broader Screen Content
- An overview of immersive experiences at South by Southwest festival 2025.
Through analysis of selected cinema spaces’ relevant activity and a review of existing research into best practices, this resource gathers insights into the evolving nature of cinema experiences. It offers practical recommendations for cinema operators, filmmakers, artists and creative technologists who are making or proposing works for exhibition in cinemas.
