Early Development Funding is for writers with exciting ideas for a debut feature - particularly if you haven’t yet teamed up with a producer.

Funding grants will contribute towards the key early stages of feature development such as writing an initial treatment, researching ideas and creating related materials. In addition to financial support, filmmakers will benefit from the creative oversight of our Talent Executives.

After providing funding to kick-start your development process, we'll offer feedback on the work you produce, introduce you to potential collaborators and help you consider how your ideas might connect with audiences.

Early Development Funding aims to propel your project towards its next stage of development. The fund is open to writers who have not yet had a feature script produced and distributed,  as well as producers and directors who are working with new writers.

How to apply

Applications for Early Development Funding are currently closed. The Spring 2021 application window is due to open in the week commencing 26 April. We'll announce further details when dates are confirmed.

In advance of the Spring application window opening, you can download previous funding guidelines and an application form preview from this page. These files are for archival purposes - but reviewing them may help inform your project planning prior to applications opening and new documentation being issued in Spring 2021.
