How to use the FHN Data Dashboard

Film Hub North’s Data Dashboard is a data visualization resource that provides helpful statistics, charts and infographics relating to audience development funding. Data has been gathered from successful funding and membership applications, project logs for awarded activity, and audience survey responses, and is updated on a quarterly basis.

Published Hub data is intended to be used by prospective and awarded applicants of Hub funding as a benchmark to inform their own applications and projects as well as provide a transparent view of the Hub’s activities and impact across the region.

Hub Overview

The Hub Overview provides top-level statistics relating to support from Film Hub North through film exhibitor funding awards and bursaries. The charts in this section demonstrate the allocation of audience awards by level of funding and the types of organization that have been successful.

Audiences

The Audiences tab includes admissions figures across in-person screenings, as well as online screening information to account for the increased provision for remote activity over the past two years. Charts include audience admissions split by level of funding and organization type in the interest of providing a benchmark of audiences across the North. A screening location heat map has also been included to show concentrated areas where activity has taken place, as well as crucially identifying areas that are less well served.

Members

The Members tab provides the total number of active Film Hub North members, including those that have joined in the current financial year. Charts show the proportion of members by organization type, as well as the proportion of members. A map of current members, coordinated by type, has also been included.

Audience Demographic Data

Audience Demographic Data has been collated using survey responses to the BFI Film Audience Network (BFI FAN) Audience SNAP surveys which have been in circulation for all awarded projects since 21/22. Audience surveys are used in order to gain information about screenings, as well as build a picture of audiences for independent films in the North.

The data provided shows response figures for key underrepresented groups, and in doing so attempts to demonstrate the impact of the activities supported by Film Hub North, as well as identifying future target focus areas. Splitting this data by priority area provides an extra layer of insight by showing the impact of activity aimed at targeted groups.

Activities supported by Film Hub North is done with National Lottery funding on behalf of the BFI Film Audience Network.
