BFI NETWORK and Film Hub North are excited to partner with Film4 and Leeds Film City to offer local creatives an early look at Wild Rose, a raucous drama flavoured with the highs and lows of a country and western classic, directed by Tom Harper and backed by the BFI.

We'll be welcoming filmmakers and industry representatives to Everyman Leeds on Wednesday, 3 April for a special preview event that includes a first look at Wild Rose and a pre-screening reception. Before sitting down to watch the film, you'll have the chance to meet fellow creatives in the local filmmaking community and chat with our BFI NETWORK team about the talent development opportunities available in the North.

Wild Rose tells the story of its unpredictable titular heroine - a young woman bursting with talent, charisma and cheek. Fresh out of jail and with two young children to care for, Rose-Lynn Harlan is hustling to turn her ex-convict malaise into country music superstardom, and to swap Glasgow for Nashville in the process. BAFTA Rising Star nominee Jessie Buckley jumps into Rose's chaotic life with both feet, delivering a performance that's sincere and bristling with the songwriter's raw energy. Julie Walters stars opposite as Marion, Rose's put-upon mother who serves as a formidable foil to her daughter's outlandish ambitions. Set to an original soundtrack that touches on family, dreams and reality, Wild Rose is an uplifting story about striving and success that embraces country's foundational mantra: to deliver three chords and the truth.
