Uprising: The Spirit of '68
New titles added to a major programme of political cinema

The revolution continues! Four new titles focusing on contemporary acts of resistance have been recruited to the Uprising ranks, rounding out a major programme of political cinema that charts the tumult of 1968 and its echoes today.

Dispossession: The Great Social Housing Swindle, Generation Revolution, Politics - An Instruction Manual and Whose Streets? join the season line-up alongside stone cold '68 classics like Night of the Living Dead, Theorem and Yellow Submarine, as well as a selection of rare imports and exclusives that includes Black Panthers, Agnes Varda's snapshot profile of the disruptive political organisation.

Newly updated, the programme connects two moments in time: the optimism, chaos and cacophony of political upheaval in 1968, and the here and now; where recurrent issues of race, identity and social activism are as urgent as ever. Uprising reflects on the role cinema played in the movements of 1968 and stakes the claim that film's power to capture, crystallise and even motivate social change persists 50 years down the line.
