Micro-funding and Professional Development Opportunities

Relaunching our Propeller and Bursary Awards.

After a fruitful year supporting screening projects and training initiatives throughout the Northern exhibition sector, Film Hub North is pleased to relaunch its micro-funding and professional development schemes for 2019/2020. Our Propeller and Bursary Awards return in familiar form, with renewed funding pots and updated guidelines produced to make the awards more effective and to reflect the exciting ways our Members have put the schemes to use in the past 12 months.

Propeller Awards remain a small, agile funding opportunity for exhibitors looking to trial new ways of working or enhance existing projects both big and small. Recent success stories have included ARC, Stockton's art centre, extend their commitment to showcasing work by artists of colour by supplementing a screening of Sorry to Bother You with a post-film panel discussion, while Hebden Bridge Film Festival delivered a warmly-received first edition featuring a diverse programme and plenty of opportunities for audiences in the Calder Valley to hear from filmmakers and special guests.

Our Bursary Awards continue to offer exhibitors access to the industry's key professional development opportunities - including screening events, training schemes and film festivals - and have also proven a valuable resource for organisations pursuing their own specific training needs. Recent awards have allowed Star and Shadow Cinema to connect with other independent/collectively programmed exhibitors at Kino Climates Meeting and have helpedĀ Sheffield Doc/FestĀ strengthen the festival's position as an important voice within the documentary sector through bespoke public speaking training.

Both funds are open for applications now. As part of the Hub's commitment to ensuring that these opportunities are as accessible as possible, there are no set application deadlines and Members are encouraged to approach the team to discuss relevant projects at any time.
