Film Exhibition Fund closes for 2023/2024 after awarding more than £60,000 to Northern film exhibitors.

Film Hub North has closed its Film Exhibition Fund for the 2023/2024 financial year after awarding more than £60,000 of National Lottery funding to local film organisations. This year, 10 film exhibitors have received support to grow audiences for great film throughout the region.

We’ve already shared stories of some of our recent funding awards - such as supporting the launch of the newly rebranded and expanded Northern Silent Film Festival, and backing the Manchester Indian Film Festival and Yorkshire Indian Film Festival to bring the best of South Asian cinema to Northern audiences.

We’ll be covering more Film Exhibition Fund stories in the coming weeks. Recent awards have supported the inaugural editions of the Scarborough Film Festival and Bradford Queer Film Festival.

Ongoing and upcoming projects include the year-round Hull Independent Cinema programme; Social Cinema, the new screening programme from the Yorkshire and North East Film Archive; and the 2024 editions of the Hebden Bridge Film Festival and Tyne Valley Film Festival.

We're really happy that funding from Film Hub North will provide us with the financial certainty we need to continue bringing great films to Hull audiences. Our July to September season offered audiences a bit of everything - from high-concept Australian horror to sumptuous Italian drama to the best new British releases. We’ve also taken part in SAFAR Film Festival, the UK’s largest festival of Arab cinema, and were particularly proud to welcome filmmaker Hala Galal for a special UK premiere screening of her documentary From Cairo. - James Russell, Hull Independent Cinema

The Film Exhibition Fund is set to reopen in early-2024 to support projects taking place throughout the 2024/2025 financial year. In the meantime, Northern film organisations can still benefit from Film Hub North’s Pitch Pot Fund for small-scale screening programmes and the Bursary Fund for staff training and development.

We continue to offer monthly drop-in sessions where film exhibitors can talk to our team about their plans and how we can help - our next sessions take place on Wednesday 13 December.
