Join us for Creative Programming & Talent Scouting: an online masterclass exploring the process of film curation.
We'll hear from independent film programmers Isra El Kassi and Rachel Pronger as they discuss their approaches to curating film programmes. You can expect to learn more about how to find great films, working out where to programme them, and developing a curatorial voice that showcases the themes, issues and aesthetics you're passionate about.
This session takes place from 12:00 - 13:00 on Thursday 20 July and is free to attend.
Creative Programming & Talent Scouting is part of our BFI Film Academy programme for film fans aged 16-25. No previous experience or knowledge of film programming is required.
BFI Film Academy offers opportunities for ambitious 16-25 year olds, anywhere in the UK, to get to know more about film and how to forge a career in the screen industries.
Isra has a background in events management and community spaces and cinemas. She is the co-founder of T A P E Collective - a cross art curatorial collective centring film and has curated for London Short Film Festival, BFI Southbank, Reclaim the Frame and Aesthetica Short Film Festival. Isra also works on outreach and audience development.
Rachel Pronger
Rachel is a curator, writer and producer. She began her career working in communications, before moving into programming roles at Alchemy Film & Arts, Tyneside Cinema, Sheffield DocFest, BFI London Film Festival and Aesthetica Short Film Festival. As co-founder of feminist film collective Invisible Women, she has co-curated programmes for partners such as the BFI Southbank, Cinema Rediscovered and Eye Filmmuseum Amsterdam. Her writing on film has been published by outlets including Sight & Sound and The Guardian. She regularly chairs Q&As, panels and workshops centred on feminism, archiving and film history.
